Barrumbi Kids wins at Chicago International Children's Film Festival

First Nations series Barrumbi Kids has won 1st Prize from the Children’s Jury at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival in the Live-Action TV category.

The NITV series is produced by Ambience Entertainment, Tamarind Tree Pictures, and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation.

BARRUMBI KIDS tells the rollicking, coming-of-age story of Tomias (Nick Bonson) and Dahlia (Caitlin Hordern)- two best friends growing up in a magical and remote Northern Territory community. The fast-paced, 10-episode drama is filled with action, humour and heart. Through fishing, dancing and schooling, the children learn about themselves, each other and living in both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal cultures.

The 40th annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival is now the oldest children’s film festival in the USA and the largest in the world. It is one of the only two oscar qualifying children’s film festivals in the world.

Executive Producer, Bernadette O’Mahony said: “We love how the children’s jury in Chicago embraced such a distinctive Top End series, and how engaged they were in the adventures of Tomias and Dahlia and Barrumbi Kids.”
