Third season for Muster Dogs

It's Kelpies & Border Collies in a third season of hit ABC series.

Hit ABC series Muster Dogs has been renewed for a third season… now set to test Kelpies & Border Collies.

Season 3 will expand to 6 episodes -two more than S1- with 6 puppies (3 Kelpies and 3 Border Collies).

While the series will test Kelpies & Collies it isn’t designed to determine which breed is superior, but rather which best suits the specifics of the farmers personality, stock, and conditions.

Speaking at the Australian International Documentary Conference, Monica O’Brien producer at Ambience Entertainment said, “We’ve only growing the episodes where there’s been a natural and authentic driver to grow the episodes. We haven’t just randomly said, ‘Let’s do 12 episodes!’ Because it needs to remain authentic to the audience, in particular the regional audience. The metro audiences are still coming for the puppies, picking a team that they want to follow for the discovery and the joy that is in the show.

“But the regional people are coming to see the growth of their representation on screen.”

When Season One was impacted by COVID, producers asked farmers to try and shoot footage using their phones while the puppies were growing.

Jo Chichester, Commissioning Editor ABC Factual added, “No one who is in Muster Dogs is an Instagram influencer who wants to be famous. They all care very deeply about the issues the show addresses.

“In Series One only one participant really leaned into filming her dog and that’s because she lives alone in the middle of nowhere with 20 dogs, so she had a bit more time on her hands. And so once the first series had gone to air, the second series participants saw the value of shooting with their phones.”

An airdate for Season 3 is yet to be announced.
